Rotary provides free water facility to Army Barracks in Delta

By Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie

Motivated by the need to provide access to safe drinking water, which is very critical to human health, Rotary Club of Effurun, Delta State has commissioned its water project for the 3 Battalion Nigeria Army Barracks Mammy Market, a settlement of thousands of people.

The project, officially commissioned by the commanding officer 3 Battalion Nigeria Army, Major S.M. Bala, represented by the officer in charge of the barracks maintenance unit (BMU) Maj. Harrison Olumeka is aimed at encouraging good health and well-being among men, women, and children living in the barrack.

Speaking at the commissioning, Assistant Governor Zone 16. AG Mfon Otitte-Douglas explained that the initiative by the Rotary Club of Effurun was designed to raise the awareness on the importance of purified and adequate water intake, as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.

“Access to safe drinking water will create a plentiful source of low-cost refreshment throughout the day. It will encourage good health and well-being, as well as reduce tiredness, irritability and distraction that could emanate from dehydration,” she said

President Rotary Club of Effurun, Mike Enehizena explained that “The 3 water borehole projects at 3 different locations in mammy market, where the club carries out our monthly polio immunization outreach, was proposed, constructed and commissioned to help the indigent members of the settlement who cannot afford to buy water, as we celebrate Rotary International’s month of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Rotarian Mike Enehizena said “The Rotary Club of Effurun identified that people still buy water for use in the mammy market and when there is power outage as result of bad transformer, there is always water crises. This water Project it will go a long way to solve their water challenge, since it doesn’t need power. And because the people are very happy about the project, which was as a result of a feasibility study and community engagement, they have agreed to own the project”.

Commending the initiative, the officer in charge of the barracks maintenance unit (BMU) Maj. Harrison Olumeka appreciated Rotary Club for providing water free of charge for the Mammy Market.

He noted that despite the importance of safe drinking water to human health and development, millions of people still lack access to safe drinking water from an improved source especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

The officer in charge of the barracks maintenance unit (BMU) Maj. Harrison Olumeka urged the people to ensure that the water remains hygienic with prompt maintenance.

Delta 2023 and the comedy of errors

Delta PDP

By Enuwa Onyekwelu

It is getting funny in Delta State. One fellow woke up one morning and declared that Governor Okowa had picked him as his successor.

Then, a reputedly unstable and garrulous Executive Assistant went frenzy with the misinformation.

Next day, another fellow elsewhere declared that Okowa had endorsed another character, not the one for which the EA danced naked.

For days, weeks, they kept overdoing themselves, talking and untalking, shamelessly.

You wonder why the desperation for endorsement? It simply shows that such aspirants are self conscious of the fact that they have nothing to offer.

They therefore resort to praise singing the Governor to curry his favour, employing his aides to manipulate him towards their direction and flying kites to deceive and possibly intimidate the people by giving the impression that the incumbent has assured them of his preparedness to abuse his powers, to undermine the party congress delegates and to compromise the democratic process in their favour.

Interestingly, all sorts of characters who thrive in chaos and the manipulation of the state to feather their nests have been jumping about the place to reinforce the misguided agenda.

Even some elders who should protect the future of the state have donated their garb of hypocritical oratory to enthrone deformity upon the people in expectation of regular state kola. Understandably, that is how they have lived while in the pretext of being community leaders.

Perhaps noticing how the arrogations and disprovals of Okowa’s endorsements tended to damage the image of the party and puncture it’s claims to internal democracy, the PDP moved to issue a rebuttal, saying the Governor has not endorsed anyone and would stick to his pledge on free and fair primaries.

Curiously, the party statement was double-faced. Tongue-in-cheek, it seemed like a rebuttal and at the same time like a confirmation of the same subject, which suggests that the party secretariat might have been compromised under some influence.

Alarmed by it all, majority of top PDP elders, chieftains, community leaders and traditional rulers across the state jerked in disbelief.

They were especially embarrassed as to how Okowa could have made such terrible misjudgment to arrive at such ridiculous choices in the face of far better and available qualities in the race.

But the Governor himself appears even more embarrassed by the false exposure and damage which the tales of his endorsements convey on him.

On one hand, it diminishes his integrity after he had promised a level playing ground for free and fair primaries. On the other hand, the choices present him as mortgaging the interest of quality governance of the state to either please a few of his inordinate aides or to satisfy a malignant personal malice or to install a stooge to ensure his continued unfettered assess to state funds when out of office.

Some even reasoned that Okowa is on an ego trip just to reduce and spite some party leaders and particular sections of the state for mere bravado.

Except if something has gone wrong in some realms, these do do not describe his person.

To control the damage, the State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, has had to call the press to restate Governor Okowa’s neutrality and belief in team work through consultations with party elders and leaders, and also safeguarding the power of the delegates, all matured adults and actual representatives of all the wards of the state, to choose on behalf of Deltans who would best deliver economic, infrastructural and social development of the state.

The disclaimer gives some hope for the future of Delta State. It gives assurance that the Governor and elders are fully conscious of the fact that after all the politics, the real challenge of governance is the capacity to create and manage resources for the development of the state and socio-economic upliftment of the people.

This being not a matter of joke, the task is not for the ordinary simply for their self-preserving loyalty to one or the other leader or high sense of sycophancy. It is not a matter for “Sgt Fallstaff” and the street gang.

In a rapidly evolving, increasingly challenging global economy driven by knowledge, information, technology and networking, today and tomorrow’s leadership requires sober, organised and well articulated persons with hybrid competencies and global reach. Deltans cannot be in doubt nor should they make any mistake about this.

For about seven years now, Nigerians have suffered and continue to suffer the consequences of a certain indiscretion in choosing a leader lacking in knowledge, information, economic management skills and global outlook. The agony of the people increases by the day. The collateral exposure and damage this has left for coming years, even decades, is even worse.

As Winston Churchill once noted, “want of foresight, unwillingness to act when action would be simple and effective, lack of clear thinking, confusion of counsel until the emergency comes, until self-preservation strikes its jarring gong – these are the features which constitute the endless repetition of history.”

This is the determination before Okowa and the leaders of Delta PDP.

It is about the future of Delta, its economic development, sustainable growth, stability and social progress.

The question is: “To be or not to be?” and the answer, like the mystic trumpet, is blowing in the wind.

It is left for Okowa, the elders, leaders and delegates to the PDP congress, to eschew sentiments, heed wise counsel and tow the path of good reason and conscience, or choose out of some dark sentiments to conduce the state into ignominy with bomboys.

In the meantime, let’s enjoy the comedy, or tragedy?

2023 PRESIDENCY: EDDY OSIFO URGE TINUBU TO NOMINATE OSIBANJO

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

An old-timer in the politics of Nigeria from the South South, Elder Barr. Edward Ehimwenma Osifo, popularly called Eddy Osifo, has urged the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to nominate the current Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Oluyemi Osibanjo (SAN) to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Eddy Osifo who is also the former National Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Unity Party of Nigeria (U.P.N) and the former, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Bendel State, in his open letter to Tinubu made available to newsmen in his country home, Igbontor-Igbanke, Edo State, appealed to Tinubu to emulate the likes of late Sir Ahmadu Bello who nominated late Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, both of blessed memory to become the first Prime Minister of Nigeria when he was confronted with a similar choice in 1959 of either contesting or choosing another party member from the N.P.C to become the Prime Minister.

In his word, “Prof. Osibanjo has shown abundant proofs of being a good leader.
“It is usually correctly said that a good follower is a good leader. This better explains the personality of Osibanjo who is not inordinately ambitious nor has he showed any evidence of greed.

“Osibanjo’s moral rectitude is not in any way in doubt. Above all, he is academically and worldly sophisticated.

“This is the kind of personality that should bear the banner of APC in 21st Century Nigeria.

“Osibanjo is physically and mentally strong enough to bear the overwhelming burden which modern Nigeria demands. He is not too old to run nor too young to do so.
“Finally, as he boards the ship of leadership, he Osibanjo should remember to take along with him the present Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai because both can make Nigeria another Lee Kuan Yew’s Singapore”, he stated.

2023: OKOWA HAS NOT AND DOES NOT NEED TO ENDORSE ANYONE PUBLICLY, PARTY IS SUPREME IN DELTA PDP

MSD

The politics of endorsement, particularly in the Nigerian political environment, is quite interesting and also amazingly intriguing, especially in its entire procedural nomenclature and the subsequent metamorphic effect it will have on the complexion and fortunes of a political party.

Sometimes it works out fine and the endorsed candidate coasts home to a landslide victory in the primaries and most importantly in the main general elections. Some other times the opposite is the case and a candidate who has been manipulated to emerge in the primaries and is foisted on the party with impunity, eventually fails at the general election.

In fact, sometimes even an aspirant who appears to have been endorsed by a godfather and his caucus in a political party, will soon come to grief when the real leaders and members, who indeed are the real owners of the party, decide to resist the impunity of dictatorial and autocratic endorsement, by supporting another aspirant who is a true, loyal, committed, popular and beloved party man or woman, to win the primary election.

Such a candidate, who enjoys the support of the members of the party, always wins the general election because the entire party is behind him and will go to great lengths to deliver him in the main election.

In other words, the entire membership of a political party, also known as the Congress of the party, is the most important and deciding factor in ensuring the success or failure of any aspirant, even if his endorsement is by the leader or one of the leaders of the party. When, however, there is a conflict of interests, the aspirants are allowed to go into a primary election, which encourages healthy competition.

Whoever emerges at the end of the exercise thus enjoys the support of the other contestants and works together to win the main election, like one big, united family, except, of course, those who are bent on pursuing and accomplishing their political ambitions under another platform.

This is even more so in the politics of Delta State as many Deltans who have followed and studied our politics objectively, will confirm. In Delta PDP, for example, ‘The Party is Supreme’. That is the proud slogan that has guided and united the PDP through the thick and thin of its joyful and troubled days and served as the unquestionable hallmark and motivating principle, which has galvanized the party and continues to drive the party powerfully, from victory to more victory in every election cycle, and consolidate the Electoral fact that “Delta is PDP and PDP is Delta.”

Chief James Ibori, the Odidigboigbo of the universe learned this in 2007, when it became obvious that very powerful interests in the party were bent on contesting the governorship primary, set up and empowered several decoys some of who even became top cabinet members at that time, and are even in this season’s race and allowed everyone to contest in a free and fair primary, even as he kept his gun powder dry and ready for the big moment.

Of course, he understood that all the major aspirants were distinguished, very popular and loyal party men who had contributed immensely to the growth, fortunes, and successes of the party and his administration, so he got the key members and structures of the party behind him to pick one from amongst the list of these very capable and excellent aspirants, because only one person can be the flag bearer in the interest of the party and the State, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan is a brilliant lawn tennis player but there is also this widely held belief and conviction, that he is even a more accomplished Squash player, when it comes to the game of racquets. Yet in the run-up to the 2014 PDP primaries, the 3 point Agenda and ‘Delta without Oil’ proponent, committed two unforced electoral errors, quite uncharacteristic of his famed and greatly admired political brinkmanship.

First, he got entangled in a Senatorial contest in which, unfortunately, he either misjudged or deliberately neglected all the warning signals from the party and became rather complacent at the expense of chasing his own dream in favour of an unnecessary power show against his own party.

Secondly and most damaging for him was that he opted to throw his weight behind a beloved and quite accomplished administrator, who, unfortunately, operated quite robustly yet peripherally on the fringes of core party activities, in a contest which had amongst the aspirants, the man, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, arguably regarded as most brilliant, articulate, strategically superior, loved and beloved completely with undiluted passion and collective acceptance across the party.

The matter became worse when a motley crowd of noisy, unserious pretenders, most of whom have since decamped to other political parties, jumped on the then governor’s bandwagon, and when it became clear that the party would always stand solidly behind its own, especially when faced with the impunity of imposition, Governor Uduaghan committed a double fault by springing a naive and even less popular greenhorn, who was touted as the ‘godfather’s’ anointed political godson.

Of course, the party won in the end and proceeded to sweep the general elections in an unprecedented landslide, achieved with a candidate who was a core party man with scars and bruises to prove it; a brilliant leader with unwavering loyalty, unshakable commitment, and unparalleled dignity and integrity in his identity and DNA, as a PDP faithful and a Pan-Delta candidate.

Interestingly, if ever there was a serious political party that has a proper reward system for those who have served the party faithfully and are willing to be patient, focused, and dedicated to the service of the party, then that party is PDP. Except for those with vaunting ambition, or those who want to place personal, individual ambition above party well being or even those who are not willing to be patient and bide their time, the PDP has always rewarded its faithful, loyal, and committed members from Ward, to Council and State and National levels, once the opportunities emerge.

Even aspirants, who contest primaries with winning candidates have been consistently rewarded at all levels, either by appointments at various levels or as candidates in bye-elections. The records and results are there for all to see and the beneficiaries are very visible and active. PDP always rewards its own in the fullness of time.

That is why it’s actually laughable to read some hilarious, kindergarten comments that Governor Okowa has promised so many people the 2023 Governorship ticket and has disappointed them, therefore they should seek to fulfill their political ambitions elsewhere. In fact, do the people who write infantile stuff like this actually think they are talking to kids?

The Movement for Stronger Delta can state categorically without fear or favour that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the Ekwueme himself, as astute and thoroughly grounded in politics, as he is, will be the last person to promise anyone that he will hand over to them, or even endorse anyone publicly for that matter, until the party has taken a stand on that person.

Governor Okowa is a team player of the highest order and any Deltan who even believes he would do such a thing, after seeing photos and reading about the several caucus meetings held in Government House, Asaba by the leaders of the party, especially in a Party like PDP, where “Party is Supreme” and decisions are taken by leaders from all the zones and interests, is either listening to the wrong people or has just arrived Delta from another State.

Even the great Odidigboigbo himself, Chief James Ibori Ibori, knows that Governor Okowa will always do the right thing for the Party and for Deltans, when he extolled the sterling leadership quality of the Governor, during the Delta Central Senatorial campaign launch of Chief Ighoyota Amori’s (Odidimadi of Africa) bid, when he said that he has no doubt in the capacity of Okowa, to manage the transition process, admitting that politics sometimes is wider and poses challenges to whoever is managing it.

Chief Ibori said: “Our governor, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, is a man with the intellect, sound reasoning, and judgment. [He has] The capacity, the knowledge of the politics of the State and credibility to manage the transition at all levels; Local government, House of Assembly, House of Representatives, the Senate and the Governorship. I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind.

“All we need to do is to pray for him and advise him. Let God give him the wisdom to manage a rancor-free process in PDP and I have no doubt in my mind that he will do it successfully by the grace of God”. And the people said a resounding “Ameeeeeen” to Chief James Ibori’s beautiful prayer.

So, let no one deceive or mislead Deltans with the sweet-sounding gossip that Governor Okowa has endorsed him or even promised to hand over to the battalion of aspirants who have been mentioned, some of whom have been spreading such provocative, unsubstantiated comments, claiming to have been informed by “inside sources”, especially on social media.

Let it be known, for those who already didn’t know and those who know yet are trying very hard to deceive Deltans, that in the PDP, Party is Supreme and the party will always provide a level playing field for everyone who is interested and has ample capacity, to contest. In fact, the PDP has started selling Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms and there is no report anywhere that anyone has been denied from purchasing the forms because the party has endorsed one candidate.

Again, the newly signed Electoral Act, by the latest ruling of Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Abia State Federal High Court has made the issue of delegates even more important than endorsement in the forthcoming primaries across all the political parties, and instead of claiming false endorsements and spreading unsubstantiated news about people who have been promised the governorship and all what not, the aspirants should instead concentrate more on how to meet and convince Delegates to vote for them.

We want to state it loud and clear for one and all, that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the ‘Ekwueme gburugburu’, has not and will never endorse any aspirant publicly. But like every leader before him and even leaders with him in the party now, he also has the unquestionable right, which nobody can deny him, to have his preferences, and also has only one vote too which he will exercise at the appropriate time.

Politics they say, is a game of numbers and PDP has pledged to deliver free and fair primary for all the aspirants including those who have been identified with some very prominent leaders, elder statesmen, and ‘godfathers’ of the Party from all the Senatorial zones. The point is that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but it is the party that decides not the individual, and ‘las las’ as the Delta parlance will say, only one person can win and after all said and done, the party is Supreme.

This is the critical message to all aspirants and party members from the Movement for Stronger Delta, MSD as the primaries approach and this, as far as we are concerned is and should be the SIMPLE Agenda in our collective effort to ensure and consolidate a #Stronger Delta for all Deltans.

MOVEMENT FOR STRONGER DELTA, (MSD).

2023: TGA pressures Emefiele to run for President

Convenes of TGA for MEFFY 2023

By ABEL JOHNGOLD ORHERUATA

A pressure movement known as ‘The Green Alliance’ (TGA), has called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Godwin Emefiele, to contest the 2023 Presidential election, with a pledged to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms for him.

Godwin Emefiele

The group made the call today while walking round the streets of Asaba, the capital of Delta State, in a roadshow like calling on Nigerians to add voices to the persuasion for the CBN Governor to join the 2023 presidential race. Telling everyone that Emefiele’s achievements in CBN were numerous and cannot be quantified, so they were appealing, pleading and persuading Emefiele to declare for the presidency.

In his speech, the convener of the group, Wale Fapohunda, who disclosed that The Green Alliance movement was right now the biggest movement in Africa 🌍 with over 6million members, that their social media handles keep getting requests on a daily basis, noted that TGA believe that what the country needed was a man who has experience in steering the economy in the right direction, hence their call for Emefiele to join the race in 2023.

While saying ‘MEFFY 2023- PEACE PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY” was the group slogan, the TGA Convener said: “Our followers and membership recorded over 800,000 people who joined our movement across the 36 States of the Federation, promising to go all the way with us until Dr. Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele yields to our clarion call, and to further reinstate our love, commitment and confidence in what this distinguished Nigerian can do if he eventually yields to our cry, we at the TGA have decided and offered to purchase the expression of interest and nomination form for Dr. Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele to contest the 2023 presidential elections under the platform of the APC.

TGA for MEFFY 2023 walking around the streets of Asaba

“This selfless gesture is borne out of the conviction we repose in his capacity, his dodgeness, his developmental prowess, his financial and economy expertise to deliver good governance to Nigeria 🇳🇬 and Nigerians.

“It will also interest you to know that many of our members in diaspora are also calling for Dr, Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele to please kindly yield to our call and take on the bull by the horn.

“He has done it before in the business world, we believe he can deliver excellently if given the opportunity to serve his fathers land”.

Fapohunda said TGA want Emefiele as President because he will be a bridge builder, that the former MD of Zenith Bank and now CBN Governor has pushed through measures that has halted importations and moved the nation’s agricultural sector to a great height.

Also speaking, the co-founder of TGA, Mr. Valentine Gabriel, the movement women Leader and director of mobilization, Angela Ajufor and TGA national legal adviser, Akin Osomo all said they were begging Emefiele to contest for President in 2023 that they would mobilize Nigerians to support him.

“The man stand above other contestants. He has the capacity to develop the country better than others. Emefiele is a detriabalize man and he will handle the nation’s economy same way he handled CBN.

2ND NIGER BRIDGE: Fashola praises Obiano for helping in community issues

2nd Niger Bridge

Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing,  Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has praised the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, to high heavens for helping in Community issues as related to 2nd Niger Bridge. Adding that he has good words for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Obi of Onitsha and Asagba of Asaba.

The former two times governor of Lagos State disclosed the good working relationship with Obiano, Okowa, Asagba and  the Obi of Onitsha towards the success of the 2nd Niger while responding to questions at a television programme “Journalists Hangout” anchored by Babajide Otitoju.

Displaying his oratorical prowess articulately with sound and brilliancy,  Fashola disclosed  that his biggest project is Kano and Abuja bridge followed by the 2nd Niger bridge.

While listing some projects that devised implementation now being completed by this Administration such as 2nd Niger Bridge, Bodo Bonny Bridge, Lagos Ibadan Express way, Apapa Oworonsoki concrete express way etc, BRF as Fashola  is fondly called noted that to make life easy for appropriation, each region must agree on two to three projects on a consensus basis. But a situation in which each legislators wants a project in his area, will lead to budget mutilation.

Despite Babajide Kolade-Otitoju’s appearances to know all the projects, the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing gave a lecture that the pension funds are not idle. They were invested in Treasury Bills.

He said LEKKI Bridge is to serve as a Lagos identity but it is a baby bridge when compared to the 2nd Niger bridge.

Fashola noted that the old Niger Bridge is being maintained but it is a single carriage bridge compared with the new one that is double carriage with a pedestrian walk way.

SECOND NIGER BRIDGE: PMB yet to pay compensations to owners of phase 2a confiscated lands, property

PMB, Mohammadu Buhari

By ABEL JOHNGOLD ORHERUATA

The claimants of the Phase ‘2a’ (comprising Asaba, Ibusa and Okpanam) of the ongoing 2nd Niger Bridge, in Oshimili South and North Local Government Areas of Delta State, have been and groaning the deliberate refusal of the Federal Government to pay their compensations for the vast lands and properties confiscated for the construction of the Second Niger Bridge.

The claimants, mainly indigenes of Delta State, that kicked against alleged neglect of their concerns by the Federal Government, disclosed that they had through a letter in December 2018 pleaded with the Federal Government to facilitate the prompt payment of their compensations.

The claimants, who were affected by the construction of the second Niger Bridge, stated that the Federal Government had failed in paying adequate compensation to them.
Addressing the Press at the Asaba side of the 2nd Niger Bridge, on Tuesday, 22 March, 2022, the Claimants of Phase 2a said  “We in Asaba , Ibusa and Okpanam have been barred from access to our properties at the center line of the connecting road to the second Niger Bridge.

“We registered our protest to the office of the Hon. Minister Works and Housing (Babatunde Fashola, SAN) through a letter dated 7th of December 2018 received in his office on the 11th of December 2018 against the delay in receiving our compensation from the Federal Government at this location.

“We were assured by his permanent Secretary that our compensation would be paid once the BPE approved the link road project. This expected approval was made on the 19th of May 2019. Regrettably, we have patiently waited since after this approval yet we have not been paid till date.

“We have observed at Okpanam, Ibusa and Asaba end, a resumption of work at this end of 2nd Niger bridge link road.

“As we speak, work has since resumed at phase 2A of the link road since 7th of December 2021.

“It’s however unbelievable that property owners at this chain have not still been paid.
“Many of these property owners have died but their families have to continue with their lives.  We know that our president has the compassion and feel of the masses plight. We urge our president to intervene as a matter of urgency.” They added.

College Of Education Provost Refutes Suspending ACTU Chairma

College Provost, Josephine Okeakwa

By News View

The Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Delta State, Dr (Mrs) Josephine Anene-Okeakwa, has reiterated her resolve to rid the College of untoward vices and reposition it to pursue the core mandate establishing the institution and make it a citadel of teaching and learning towards attaining academic excellence.

Dr. (Mrs.) Anene-Okeakwa spoke to our Correspondent who visited her office to clarify issues surrounding a recent publication by an online medium, accusing her of dissolving the Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit of the College (ACTU) (an ICPC-watchdog in tertiary institutions) and suspending its chairman for exposing some sharp practices involving a senior lecturer in the College, dismissed the allegations as false and unfounded.

According to the Provost, “This is a lie from the pit of hell, I have never interfered in anything concerning any Panel of Enquiry’s assignments. There are limits to what a Provost can do in a College setting; the Council has much more powers to take some punitive measures against senior staff who go overboard.”

“As Provost, I have no power to disband ACTU, and I know very well the limit of my powers. It may interest you to know that I am a product of the system. I have been in Management for years as Head of Department, Dean of School, Deputy Provost, Governing Council Member, and now Provost. So I have garnered enough experiences to know how the system operates, the powers and limitations of Provost.”

“I couldn’t have dissolved ACTU and as a matter of fact I did not. The truth is that Governing Council of the College in a meeting held recently looked into the petitions and reports arising from and against ACTU. Council in its wisdom took steps to refocus the body on its core mandate. You may wish to interact with ACTU Chairman and members. Please go and hear from them directly”.

In an attempt to get reactions from staff with regards to the administration of the College, some of them attested to the fact that Dr. Anene-Okeakwa has been exceptional in leadership and administration.

Those who gave their opinions on conditions of anonymity, affirmed that certain academic members of the College are not happy with her excellent record of progress in academic and infrastructural developments, and so bent on tarnishing her image to render her achievements worthless.

They even gave an instance when she had to discipline her own son who is a staff of the College over a trivial matter, confirming the popular assertion that she is a thorough disciplinarian.

Several attempts were made to speak to ACTU Chairman, Mr Samuel Ilabor for his own side of the story but proved abortive as he didn’t pick calls put across to him through his mobile phone.

However, a member of ACTU who pleaded anonymity said, “Things have not being going well in ACTU for some time now. As I speak with you many of us have resigned as ACTU members because the Chairman practically turned ACTU into a weapon of blackmail and Vendetta.”

“Most times he cajoles us into helping to settle his personal scores with staff of the College, instigating malicious petitions and stage managed investigations. On moral grounds Mr Ilabor is not fit to serve as ACTU Chairman because he was Vice Chairman in our Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society for eight years. His regime is being investigated by EFCC/ICPC for fraudulent embezzlement, diversion/misappropriation of over #150million.”

“Mr Ilabor was Chairman of Land Committee and we were told in Congress that the bulk of fraud was perpetrated in Land transactions, apart of Loan of over #5million he fraudulently obtained using his wife as proxy! You can see where ACTU problem started. The Chairman was using us to fight his battles! When we realized this we all resigned on moral grounds.”

“The last stroke that broke the Carmel’s back was his latest campaign of calumny and vendetta against Dr O. E. Okonta a highly reputable Chief Lecturer and Governing Council Member. Mr Ilabor dragged ACTU into his personal squabbles with Dr Okonta over School of Science Deanship politics and College Staff Cooperative politics. All Ilabor’s allegations and petitions against Dr Okonta using fictitious names turned out to be fabricated, malicious, all tainted in bad blood. How can we continue in a noble body like ACTU with a character like Mr Ilabor as Chairman, a serial blackmailer?”

On whether the Provost dissolved ACTU as published online, another ACTU member who also didn’t want her name on print for fear of harassment an intimidation, said it was a mere propaganda they were all there at the Meeting of ACTU with Governing Council.

“We were invited following reports and petitions emanating from and against ACTU. ACTU Chairman had instigated an amorphous petition against Dr Okonta and purportedly carried out a Kangaroo investigation submitted to Governing Council. At the Meeting, the Provost did not even comment on the matter.”

“So I wonder where the allegation that Provost dissolved ACTU emanated from. The ACTU members themselves promptly disowned Ilabor’s report against Dr Okonta having discovered it was all malicious, baseless, vindictive. We pleaded with Council to pardon us because we were misled and manipulated as weapon of vendetta against Dr Okonta.”

“There and then ACTU members realized they had derailed substantially; instead of pursing its core mandate as anti-graft agency and watchdog against corruption, they veered into partisanship. It was at this point that the Provost lent her voice pleading with Council to pardon the flagrant violation of extant College/Public service rules and code of conduct caused by Mr Ilabor.”

2023: Constituents begs Delta Assembly leader, Onwo to re-contest …..raises funds for nomination form

Ferguson Onwo

By: Palmer Ogheneyole Nathaniel

Thousands of supporters of the Majority Leader and Honorable Member representing Isoko South Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Ferguson Onwo, yesterday passed a vote of confidence in him for his sterling performance in his first tenure, urging him to contest for same position in the 2023 general election.

The people who thronged the Lawmaker’s country home in Olomoro in their numbers, said Onwo has within a short period of representing them, demonstrated that truly government can work for and in the interest of the common man.

Speaking during the event, a former Leader of Isoko South Legislative Arm and current Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, said, “We have seen the Majority demonstrate true leadership both at home and in his support for the Speaker in the management of the affairs of the House. We are proud to see our son hold a position as strategic as that of the leader of the House. “

“During this short period of his representation, we have witnessed development first hand across all the wards in the Constituency. Even as a first timer Hon. Onwo has been able to execute at least 2 projects in all the 6 wards of our constituency. His emergence as the Majority Leader which is something very unusual in the political permutations, indicates that he is a man highly favored by God,” he added.

On his part, a Port Harcourt-based Lawyer and philanthropist Barr. (Chief) Afahokor Duncan who spoke on behalf of his Umeh community, said Hon. Onwo as a representative had during his electioneering campaign in 2019, promised the people of Umeh Community some projects. Afahokor who is the Administrator of the pan-Isoko advocacy page on Facebook, declared that himself and other constituents across the wards in the constituency has resolved to purchase the nomination and expression of interest form for the Lawmaker to further indicate the level of seriousness and support for his second term agenda.

He said the mammoth crowd that gathered in his honour was a rare privilege which he would never take for granted. He appealed to the people to give him more time to consider their requests as he is presently occupied with the mandate given to him in 2019.

“I have actually thought of presenting my scorecard to constituents very soon to unvail what i have achieved so far in this period of my administration but I’m overwhelmed today hearing leaders recounting some of my projects in their various wards which shows a sign of contentment, however on the part of calling me to run for second term i want to state here that a day is coming that I’ll respond to the call, i want to appeal to you all to allow me some little time even as I cons=tinue to serve in the mandate you willingly gave me in 2019.
