OKOWA COMMISSIONS MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DONATED BY DESOPADEC IN DELTA

By Oghenero Orovwuje

Primary healthcare items, donated by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), have been commissioned for distribution in Delta State.

The state governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, commissioned the equipment in the premises of the Ministry of Works in Asaba, the state capital.

Governor Okowa, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, said primary healthcare strengthening was a government strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage, adding that it was a tool to tackle health challenges in communities in the state.

He noted that the equipment would enhance healthcare delivery at the primary healthcare level.

The Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, said the donation was in line with  Governor Okowa’s vision of a good health delivery for the residents of the state.

He said the items provided would cover various needs of the primary healthcare centres, including pharmacies, laboratories, consulting room and wards, among others.

In an address, the Head of Health Department in DESOPADEC, Mr. Micheal Ekotogbo, commended the state government for its support in enhancing healthcare delivery, including furnishing and equipping cottage hospitals in communities in their mandate areas.

In their good will messages, local government councils, National Healthcare Development Agency, Abuja, and Primary Health Care Authorities, all commended DESOPADEC for the gesture.

The items donated were beds, medical instruments, administrative cupboards, clinical beds, special medical lights and wheel chairs, among others.

“Strengthening Primary Health Is Our Strategy To Achieve Universal Health Coverage” – Okowa

Delta State Governor, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has stated that the strengthening of primary health care is the strategy of his administration to achieve universal health coverage , saying it is a veritable tool to reduce the burden of diseases and tackle emerging and re-emerging health challenges in Delta communities.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate disclosed this at the presentation and commissioning of health care equipments for distribution to various primary health care centers in the state donated by the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) on Monday, 19 December, 2022.

While acknowledging the role of DESOPADEC in actualizing the vision of government in various sectors, Governor Okowa who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, noted that the equipments would enhance health care delivery at the primary level across the state.

He enjoined Local Government Health Authority officials to optimally utilize the equipments to the benefit of individuals, households and communities to reduce maternal and child mortality in the state.

Earlier in his speech, the Managing Director/CEO of DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, stated that the hard and soft health care equipment, including furnishings, consumables and supplies cover all essential needs for the effective and efficient delivery of primary health services in the 268 Primary Health Care facilities across the state for the benefit of all Deltans.

He said the intervention of DESOPADEC in that regard was in line with the State Governor’s vision and promise of prosperity for all Deltans.

The objective of the agency, he said, was “to ensure that Deltans, wherever they are, have access to health care within their proximity.”

Askia Ogieh said in consonance with the commitment of Senator Okowa’s administration, the ultimate was “to ensure a healthy citizenry which will not only enhance their productivity in all spheres of life but also the general well-being, happiness and peace of mind of all our people and families.”

Adding, he said “As you stated succinctly in one of the Presidential Town Hall meetings in company with His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, ensuring wider and deeper health care penetration reduces the need and population of the citizenry that would require secondary health care and also reduces the pressure on our General Hospitals.

“This, by extension, also reduces the demand for tertiary health care.

“This apt insight on health care architecture informed our ready response to the the Delta State Primary Health Care Agency when they requested for our intervention.

“The items we are presenting today cover the various needs of a Primary Health Care Centre, from the front office, to consulting rooms, wards, dispensaries, laboratories, pharmacies, management offices and other critical health delivery requirements for the unhindered operation of all of the 268 centres and the delivery of health care services across the state.

“While we are delighted and proud of our intervention to provide for all Deltans and indeed for the various legacy projects we have provided in the mandate area of DESOPADEC, we must thank Your Excellency for providing the vision, challenging us, supporting us and leading from the front, always, to help us achieve.

“This, coupled with your track record of achievements in the health sector, further demonstrates your sense of responsibility, love and care for Deltans.

“It also gives hope for the rescue of our national health care system and, indeed, the resetting of various critical sectors of our social polity, when you emerge as the Vice President of our dear nation, come 2023.”

The CEO of DESOPADEC commended Governor Okowa for his “inestimable achievements in the development of Delta state, across all sectors, districts, local government areas and communities, and continued contributions to nation building.

“This event is, indeed, another landmark achievement in your mission to establish a Stronger Delta,” he concluded.

APGA Delta State Campaign Team Inaugurated…as Ogboru releases Seven-Point Jubilee Agenda ….Okunbor says democracy must return to the people

It was gathering of mammoth crowd and who is who in All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Orchid Hotel, Asaba, the Capital City of Delta State, as the party inaugurated its campaign council for emancipation of good governance come 2023, which was captured in the Seven-Point Jubilee Agenda Manifesto of the party.

While addressing the mammoth crowd of the party faithfuls, the Delta State Governorship Candidate of the party, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru stated that the Jubilee Agenda encapsulates the party’s Seven-Point Jubilee programme which focuses on reforms and development in education, housing, agriculture, environment and youth development.

“The APGA point Jubilee Agenda derives from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,SDGs. It is a blueprint and a call to action towards ending poverty and defeating hunger, promoting quality education, good healthcare and justice, protecting the environment, among other critical issues and thus achieving a better peaceful, prosperous and sustainable life for all Deltans.

The plank of the Jubilee Agenda is the party’s exclusive initiative on the comprehensive development of the state with the Local Governments Boards as the Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV of this transformative change. This is called the Equal Opportunity Local Government Development Initiative, EOLGDI

This is a 60 billion naira annual initiative, which translates to 200 million naira monthly to each of the 25 LGAs in the State. That is 5 Billion naira monthly on a state-wide basis.

It is envisaged that over the 4 year period of the administration, this will translate to direct infrastructural development of about 500m-600m in about 125 communities.

It is time to take back our state. Delta State is one of the richest states in Nigeria yet wallowing in poverty. We have crude oil in Delta and we are accumulating money from it. Recently, 1999 Oil derivation was released and Delta State had the highest share of over two hundred Billion naira. What did we do with it? Nothing. This nonsense must stop.

Delta is at the verge of collapsing but we will not let it collapse. This is why I’m out to deliver Deltans from this political squalor. I will never abandon anyone.

Let us put our hands together to see how we can set Delta State free for a Jubilee, he said”.

We are formidable and fully on ground to deliver dividends of democracy to our people in the Constituency. We will make sacrifices and nurture our people hope in attracting meaningful projects to the local government and Delta State at large”, he assured.

He enjoined them to support all APGA’s candidates to emerge victoriously at the polls come 2023. He also thanked the party’s faithfuls for their show of love and undivided loyalty to the vision of the party in the Constituency and Delta State large, praying God to grant them their heart desires in all areas of life.

2023: Former, Present Students leaders accuse Okowa of diverting Delta funds for Vice Presidential ambition

PAST and Present Student Union Leaders, (PPSUL), Delta state have accused Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of diverting state resources to fund the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) presidential campaigns.

The group arising from their meeting yesterday, in a signed resolution noted that the action of the Governor was a slight on them and outright broad day robbery on the good people of the state.

The resolution was signed by Comrades Kennedy Tabuko, (Delta Central), Imalah Ugoachanum, (Delta North) and Sabastine Agbefe, (Delta South) respectively.

According to them, “This resolution bothers on our true position on the state of affairs of our dear state and the need to put things in the right perspective in the face of the obvious maladministration of the Okowa led regime as we approach yet another electioneering year.

“We frown at the image of the state presented before the entire nation by the state government on their inability to account for the payment received on the backlog of the 13 percent derivation remitted to the state government by the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government”

While demanding from Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to offset the pension backlog incurred by his administration and his predecessors, they said a labourer is desirous of his wages, service of our civil servants should not be neglected and their service to the state of several decades should be rewarded accordingly with the right entitlements.

The Governor has equally been called upon to ensure he completes the Asaba-Ughelli dual carriageway that has been under construction amongst other stalling projects in the state.

“As Deltans embark on this mission to the promise land of a new Delta driven by the zest of a purposeful leadership, as comrades, we do not wish that our people remain captive and can’t gamble with the state’s fortune on a man who can not guarantee the needed development of our dear state.

“Hence, we have decided to chat a new course for our comrades and ensure we secure a better deal for our people in the next administrative dispensation by aligning ourselves fully with the EDGE to BAND Agenda of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State.

“Governor Okowa and his cronies should redirect the state resources pegged for sponsoring and executing his Vice Presidential bid to the development of the state which the monies were statutorily meant for.

“Hence, we unequivocally demand the refund of all resources that has been redirected to execute their personal political interest to the development of the state, they posited.” The statement added.

20M Was Approved To Mobilize Members For Oyo Rally But Doyin Okupe Sent Only 4M – Ogun Labour Party

Amid ongoing internal squabble rocking the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Chairman of the Ogun chapter of the party, Michael Ashade has come out to shed more light on the reason why he and other executives in the state chose to expel the party’s Campaign Director-General, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ on Saturday, Ashade alleged that apart from violating the party’s constitution by failing to pay his dues for six months, Dr. Okupe is being suspected of some financial inconsistencies, especially on the runup to the Labour Party’s campaign rally in Ibadan, Oyo State a fortnight ago.

According to Ashade, although the sum of N20 million was approved by the Campaign Council for the mobilization of members from Ogun State, Dr. Okupe only sent four million to that effect, claiming that he was personally funding the mobilization from his pockets.

He said; “Our grouse is not just the fact that he has been found wanting on his financial obligation as a member, we also highlighted certain deeds that occurred during the rally at Ibadan in which members in Ogun State were expected to be mobilized for that rally. And certain financial anomalies occurred which we highlighted there. And we have discovered that certain amounts of money were approved for the states by the campaign council and we are asking where are the funds.

Maybe he didn’t know it will get to this, but I have a chat he sent me saying that he is personally paying to mobilize members from Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun states for the Oyo state rally saying that no official amount was approved. But, 20 million Naira was approved specifically for Ogun State to mobilize members. We estimated 200 buses for the members and it was turned down. It was reduced to 100 buses and forwarded to him but he still rejected it saying no, that there are no funds that he was personally funding it. He came up with an estimation of 5,195,000, saying that was what he could personally afford. But it was less than that. About four million was what was gathered as what he gave.”

Attacks On NEXIM Bank ED, Stella Okotete, Malicious, Sponsored – Niger Delta Group

Stella Okotete

A group, Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA), has called on a group of legal practitioners, Lawyers For Justice Reform and others to properly verify their facts and provisions of the law and desist from maligning the good image of Hon. Stella Okotete, the Executive Director, Nigeria Export Import Bank (NEXIM).

Stella Okotete

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Iteveh Nur’ Ekpokpobe and Secretary, Comr. Karo Edor, issued in Port-Harcourt, the group stated that the Lawyers For Justice Reform petition was baseless, and laced with deliberate maliciousness to bring an illustrious daughter of Niger Delta to disrepute before the public.

According to NDDA, judging by the names of those who signed the petition; the CSO was playing an ethnic card and in accordance with the dictates of a faceless party which would soon be exposed.

“As a pan Niger Delta Group we shall not fold arms and watch traducers pull down one of our very best who has performed impeccably well in her capacity as the Executive Director, Business Development.

Stella Okotete

The group restated that there was no provision in the NEXIM act that lays out the qualifications for appointment of Executive Directors or any Director or the bank as appointments are purely at the prerogative of the President.

The NDDA stressed that Hon Stella Okotete has performed well in her capacity as an Executive Director which has in turn led to the growth of the bank.

“According to section 14 (1) a, b and c of Nexim act stated that the bank shall be exempted from provisions of banks and other financial institutions act (BOFIA), among others particularly section 47 of BOFIA.

“We hereby urge the public to disregard the publication forthwith as it was done with malicious intents. We also sound a note of warning to the Lawyers For Justice Reform and any other group who may pop their heads in future to turn their face away from our illustrious daughter or face the tune.” The group stressed.

Backdoor Victory Is No Victory At All… ..urges The Judiciary To Be Firm In Redeeming It’s Image..(OPINION)

Judges

By Oniobo Ofegor Collins (mnim)

It is in public domain, the way and manner the Judiciary arm of government which is the beacon of hope, has been reduced to it’s lowest ebb by the Executive. This is a system that has been in place over the years but was, however, worsened by the current administration of President Mohammadu Buhari (GCFR) since inception in 2015.

Justice symbol of the Judiciary

During the 2018 Presidential primary of the PDP, Alh. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, an aspirant in the Party then, publicly apologized to former President Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR) for leaving the PDP and helping to enthrone a tyrant and clueless man to become President of Nigeria. He said he thought Jonathan’s government was the worst in Nigeria’s recent history, he never knew or believed there would be a government worse than that of Jonathan.

This is a scenario that is about to repeat itself here in Delta state, if we are not all careful.

Following the overturn of the victory of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo state, by the Supreme Court, there were public outcry that encompassed the entirety of the state demanding ‘justice’ from the same arm of government that was pressured into giving a judgement that didn’t go down well with most Nigerians of goodwill.

Judges

One begins to wonder how a Party Which didn’t come second was made winner of an election by the Supreme Court, that was publicly adjudged to be fair and credible by INEC. Now, there’s no meaningful progress in Imo state since Gov. Hope Uzodinma held sway in that capacity.

Through the ballots, the APC in Delta state will record little votes across the state. It’s a fact. However, due to the nature of it’s candidate Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the current Deputy President of the Senate, to dubiously use instruments of State and other ill-means to snatch the will and hope of the majority of the people, then Deltans need to wear the highest cover of alacrity because it’s obvious this will be the case in few months time.

APC have lost more elections on ballot to the PDP. It is due to the pressure of the federal Executive arm of State, that it secures funny Judicial verdicts across Nigeria. Such victory is no victory at all.

Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is the popular choice of majority of Deltans and as they say, Greatest happiness of the greatest number is a good and just verdict.

Justice Judiciary

The judiciary, is therefore, urged to be resolute and firm in it’s quest to be independent and to redeem it’s image. In few African Countries, their apex Courts have given verdicts against either the ruling Party or their Presidents so Nigeria shouldn’t and won’t be an exception.

I, therefore, urge the PDP and indeed Deltans, to vote Sheriff as Governor and also stand by their votes during the impending legal tussle that is most likely to emerge after the gubernatorial election next year.

PDP is the way.
PDP is the only way.
PDP is the right way.

End.

13% DERIVATION: Group Slams Gov Wike Over PAYMENT Allegation

Nyesom Wike
In recent times, enemies of the Niger Delta especially Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have harped on the “revelation” by another enemy of the Niger Delta that South South Governors have received from the Federal Government the full arrears of 13% derivatives owed them since 1999. While this assertion by Wike is patently false and designed to cause confusion in the region one must look at the intent of Nyesom Wike before jumping into conclusions.
Gov Nyesom Wike
Before we do that, we must not give credit to Wike for being the righteous Governor of the South South while the rest should be demonized. Governor Okowa was the first Governor of the South South to disclose that his government had been promised a refund of 240 billion naira from the derivative funds to be paid in instalments for 5 years. This revelation came in April 2022 when Dr Ifeanyi Okowa sought a bridge Finance from a bank as a draw down on the expected refund from the Federal Government.
Dr Okowa explained to the world that the 150billion bridge finance was not a conventional loan with a huge interest element.
Ovie Omo-Agege
As at today, contrary to wild speculations by a highly credulous populace the Dr Okowa administration has drawn only the sum of 30b naira on the bridge Finance. For the benefit of hindsight, Dr Okowa had told Nigerians in April, 2022 that he needed the bridge loan to finance some critical legacy projects like the Delta Leisure Park and Film village Asaba, the Koka junction flyover at Asaba as well as take care of outstanding pension commitment to state and Local Government pensioners in the state’s contributory pension scheme amounting to 20 billion naira and 10 billion naira respectively.
It is instructive to state that the Dr Okowa administration has received only 14.7billion naira in three instalments 4.9billion out of the 240billion approved as derivative refund to Delta state. Out of this little sum, the state Government in keeping to its promise has released the sum of 5billion naira for the payment of Pension Arrears to retirees in the State. The sum of 2.5billion naira was  released for the payment of Pension Arrears for the state pensioners while the sum of 2.5billion naira was also released as “grant” to local Government Bureau for the payment of local Government and primary school retirees.
Adams Oshiomhole
This factual disclosure puts paid to the financially illiterate speculation that the 150billion bridge finance was used by Dr Okowa to fund his Vice Presidential ambition.
These types of crazy, malicious and illiterate speculations are peddled by those who do not know how government works.
Unfortunately, those who know like Nyesom Wike, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have stood the truth on its head just to discredit the Okowa administration and indeed South South Governors just to score cheap Political points.
Nyesom Wike, from whom all these malicious propaganda sprang is looking for people to drown with him in his journey of perdition. Unfortunately, it is difficult to vilify Dr Okowa as his achievements are in the public domain.
For the records, Dr Okowa has been rated as a financially prudent Governor whose judicious use of public funds has been his signature tune. Dr Okowa’s administration is the only one in the 36 states of the Federation that has and manages four Universities and seven tertiary institutions.
Delta state is the only state in Nigeria that has 31 urban towns, each competing for access to state resources.
Yet, the Delta state Government under Dr Okowa’s watch is finishing strong with strings of accomplishments ranging from a sprawling, ultra modern State Workers secretariat that has become a cynosure in the state capital of Asaba to the Asaba leisure park and entertainment village and 15 state of the art Technical colleges, with 6 fully completed and equipped while 9 others are in varying stages of completion.
On roads, the Delta state Government under Okowa’s watch has completed 1000km and ambitious storm water control projects at Asaba and environs while replicating same in Warri/Effurun axis.
While Nyesom Wike prides himself in building bridges in Portharcourt alone, Dr Okowa has embarked on 22 bridges, some of which are the Ovwor-Effurun-Otor bridge, Agbarho-Orherhe road and bridge, Kwale-Beneku ongoing bridge, Trans-Warri roads and bridges and the Koka fly-over bridge amongst others.
On youth empowerment, Dr Okowa’s administration has empowered thousands of youths through entrepreneurial schemes while 1.1 million Deltans have been enrolled into the state’s contributory health scheme.
Dr Okowa is also credited with the completion of the Asaba Specialist Hospital and the establishment of the Advanced Diagnostic Centre and mother and child Hospital at Owa Alero.
We would not forget Dr Okowa’s giant stride in upgrading the Stephen Keshi Stadium at Asaba into an international standard stadium as well as upgrading and concessioning the Asaba airport for improved service delivery.
From the foregoing one can conveniently say that Dr Okowa, the Governor of Delta state and by the grace of God the incoming Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has paid his dues. He deserves commendation and not condemnation from his traducers. He has a lot of experience to export from Delta state to the National level.
Nyesom Wike
Okowa is unstoppable and those who are planting thorns and thistles on his way to the top are only fuelling his resolve to do more for Delta State and Nigeria.
God bless Delta State.
