EFCC Raids PDP Witnesses’ Hotel Amid Alleged Meeting with Okpebholo, Sparking Tensions Ahead of Tribunal Hearing

Ahead of the resume sitting by the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC on Tuesday stormed the hotel where witnesses of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP lodged in Benin City . This comes amidst allegation of a clandestine meeting between Governor Monday Okpebholo and the EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, in Abuja.

The said meeting allegedly took place just hours before the dramatic raid by EFCC operatives.

The timing of the alleged meeting has raised eyebrows, particularly as it occurred when lawyers to Senator Okpebholo successfully pleaded for an adjournment of the Election Petition Tribunal commencement date from Monday, the 13th, to Wednesday, the 15th. The EFCC raid on the hotel unfolded less than 24 hours before proceedings were set to begin.

The said meeting has set tongues wagging in the state by agitated indigenes even though details of the said emeeting remain unknown. This is all the more so given the public threats by the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe.

Tenebe had in a chilling remark, threatened that anyone who dared to come out to testify on behalf of the PDP candidate would be framed for the murder of a police officer and be arrested.

The EFCC raid, which played out in dramatic fashion, saw plainclothes operatives storm the hotel and attempt to whisk away a witness. Chaos ensued when the witness raised an alarm, prompting intervention from other hotel guests. Eyewitnesses report that the operatives refused to identify themselves, leading to tensions that nearly spiraled out of control.

It took the personal intervention of the candidate of the PDP, Asue Ighodalo, and his lead counsel, Barrister Ken Mozia SAN, who were both at the hotel at the time, to calm the situation.

A video of the incident, now viral on social media, shows Ighodalo urging restraint and de-escalation even as tensions flared.

Senior EFCC officers in their signature red vests eventually arrived at the scene, only to abruptly leave with their team after claiming they had no intention of harassing or intimidating witnesses; calling it an unfortunate coincidence. However, the timing of the raid and the absence of any formal explanation for their actions has sparked widespread condemnation and accusations of political interference by the Edo State Government.

Critics have pointed out that the raid is part of a pattern of intimidation tactics deployed against the PDP candidate.

Aniagwu reels out Oborevwori’s achievements in 19months …Says Delta Governor will reply critics with more projects

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Mr Charles Aniagwu, Monday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was not interested in fighting any political battles but would steadfastly continue to reply to critics with massive projects delivery ahead of 2027.
Aniagwu, who was recently directed to oversee the State Information Ministry, spoke specifically on the state of affairs in the state at a press briefing in Asaba, the state capital.Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the Commissioner said  Governor Oborevwori was not interested in any political fight but was primed to responding to critics with the delivery of many more viable projects.

“We have seen a whole lot of publications in different places, including those that are insinuating that he is leaving the PDP.

“Oborevwori is a very proud member of the Peoples Democratic Party. Today, Oborevwori is a clear leader amongst leaders of the party in Nigeria, and he is not in any way hungry to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Aniagwu remarked that Governor Oborevwori had kept faith with the continuation and completion of inherited projects, while also initiating new ones.

“Having continued with the numerous projects he inherited, he is currently advancing the state with completion of ongoing roads, while also initiating more projects.

He listed some of the inherited, ongoing and completed projects to include the Okpanam-Ibusa bypass; Beneku bridge; Asaba /Ughelli dual carriageway, particularly sector C1 and C2, Sector A and with repairs in Sector B as well as the 6-story High Court Complex in Asaba.

On initiating new projects, Aniagwu, said the Warri and Effurun skyline would never be the same again as Julius Berger was handling the laudable projects with three flyover bridges and road expansion works currently ongoing in the corridor.

According to him, “other roads have been completed within Asaba and the capital territory, while in Delta South a lot of roads in Warri, Isoko North and Isoko South have also been completed, while new ones have also been initiated.

“In Sapele and Okpe, a lot of road projects are ongoing, while some have been completed like the Ohorhor-Adagbrasa-Ugolo-Okuodiete road, Ezesi Road dualisation in Orerokpe and other internal roads in Sapele.

“In Delta North, Eweshi-Utagba-Uno and Ndemili-Utagba-Uno Road in Ndokwa West, Akumazi-Umuocha and Owere-Olubor roads have been completed, while the Issele-Azagba-Otulu road is currently ongoing.”

Aniagwu also said Governor Oborevwori had been building bridges of possibilities, connecting communities and giving room for both business interaction and for people to also have some form of interaction with their kiths and kins in their neighbouring local government areas.

“His business, at the moment, is governance and he is not going to lose sight of it.

“Because of side talks and because he believes that this is not the time to begin to play politics, what he is doing at the moment is to ensure that he keeps faith with all Deltans.

“He believes that every Deltan deserves the dividend of democracy and that is what he has concerned himself all about.

“I also recall that in one of our outings at the UPU celebration at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, the Governor asked his kinsmen and Deltans to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“He was very clear when he noted that the support for Tinubu also is equal to support for him, that is not politicking; that is governance because, the times we are in now is not for politics but governance.”

In the Education sector, Aniagwu said the administration had established and operationalized a campus of the Southern Delta State University, at Orerokpe, as well as introduced a College of Health Sciences at the institution’s main campus in Ozoro.

He said the administration had also upgraded facilities in several general hospitals and over 150 primary healthcare centres and provided substantial funding to numerous Colleges of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, and established a College of Health Technology at Ovrode, which is now operational.

On the housing sector, the Commissioner said, “the administration has commenced the building of 50 housing units made up of 30 three bedrooms and 20 two bedrooms in Ozoro, Kwale and Owa-Oyibu as a pilot scheme, while eight units of duplex are also being constructed to accommodate more Commissioners in the quarters.

“As part of its efforts at diversifying the economy of the state, the administration has sealed a deal with UTM LNG for the harnessing of the huge reserves of natural gas in the state.

On fiscal discipline and efficient resource allocation, Aniagwu said “over N200 billion has been paid to liquidate the state’s debt stock while contractors are being mobilised with new jobs with outstanding job certificates paid as they fall due.”

He added, “just yesterday, the Governor drove round the entire city to identify many projects that require attention and I can assure you that he is also ready to revamp the state’s broadcast outfits in Asaba and Warri.

“As part of breathing a new lease of life on the stations, the Governor has directed that I submit a report on the stations within the three weeks.”

Agbor Fire Disaster: Ned Nwoko offers Assistance to victims’ families

A week after a deadly tanker fire claimed lives and damaged properties at Agbor, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District has offered to help families of the victims with material support.

Last Sunday, a tanker conveying fuel on old Lagos road Agbor,in Ika South local government area ,lost control and burst into flames.

About 6 people died in the inferno while properties worth millions of Naira were burnt.

Moved by the tragedy , Senator Nwoko sent a delegation to meet with families of the casualties, days after issuing a public statement of condolence.

Speaking on behalf of the Federal lawmaker,the Head, Senator Ned Nwoko senatorial Office Asaba, High Chief Ugo Asibelua expressed sadness over the incident.

He said Senator Nwoko was “deeply touched about the tragic deaths and loss of properties”

In his remarks ,the Senior Legislative Aide and Chief of staff in the office of Senator Ned nwoko, Dr Michael Nwoko said “the visit was to sympathize with the families and take record of losses” for necessary succour by the Senator

He said “Senator Ned Nwoko would provide appropriate financial assistance in his characteristic spirit of charity”

He urged the families of the victims and those who lost their properties to be calm as the Senator was committed to their welfare in this time of distress.

Among places visited by the team were the scene of the Agbor tanker accident and homes of the victims – Deaconess Adomgbor Deborah,who was caught in the fire while returning from Church,Donatus Udoka, a generator mechanic and Rashidat, a bureau de change operator who hailed from Kebbi state.

The Ika South and Ika North East local government coordinators, Ned Nwoko senatorial office, Mr Stanley Ehiedu and Mr Alfred Idehen thanked the senator for “his untiring efforts in uplifting the material well being of the people of Delta North and Nigerians in general”

Delta APC suffering from chronic incontinence

When an institution that is expected to conduct itself on the basis of informed facts begins to act and react on the basis of speculation or rumour, we must see that something must have gone wrong with its medulla, its core.

It is therefore no wonder that, acting through its State Publicity Secretary, Barr Valentine Onojeghuo, the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress allowed itself to issue a public statement, as recently reported, in reaction to what Onojeghuo himself clearly termed “speculations” that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is seeking to defect to the APC.

It is even sadder that Onojeghuo describes himself as a lawyer who ordinarily should know the need to act on the basis of facts, but we can understand that the Delta APC is suffering from incontinence and cannot help itself.

Incontinence in common parlance is “peeing in the pants.” In addition to adverse medical conditions, it occurs when someone is seriously stressed, stricken by deep fear, loses his brain control, becomes unable to control his vital organs, and thus drips involuntarily.

That appears to be the condition that is currently afflicting the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, pitifully.

Consumed by the psychological trauma, pathological grief, chronic sadness and irreversible depression over the massive rejection of its candidate by Deltans in the 2023 Governorship election, it has numbed itself into recurring nightmares and now suffers anxiety, self-suffocation and pervasive fear as Deltans look determined to re-elect Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027.

Oborevwori being not a self-conceited person and not given to unnecessary showmanship, they had imagined that their candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, would defeat him in the elections, but Deltans made a rigorous character judgment of the two, and supported Oborevwori massively to hand Agege a crushing defeat.

Feeling woefully disgraced, they instigated the institution of about 38 litigations to upturn the victory, but Oborevwori also defeated them in all.

Deflated, they resigned with the hope of relaunching their bid in 2027, but the responsible, inclusive leadership style and sterling performance being delivered by Oborevwori is already assuring his return, at the same time showing them that they will suffer even more disgraceful defeat in 2027.

All across the state, Deltans are pleased with the projects and programmes of the administration. They richly appreciate the pace of work on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the Warri and Effurun three flyover bridges, a cloverleaf and massive stormwater drainage channels projects, all going on simultaneously in the metropolis.

They had thought that they have been disregarded and forgotten and did not ever anticipate the projects, talk less of the engagement of Julius Berger to handle them, but as they commute daily, they are pleasantly surprised to see the projects taking shape rapidly. This is in addition to the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road and hundreds of other internal roads and drainage projects in the area.

It is the same for the people of Ndokwa East for whom the Beneku Bridge has been done while over 26 other road projects are on across Ndokwa and Ukwuani.

It is the same for the Ijaw nation where the Bedeseigha Bridge has been done, while action is now on the Ayakoromo Bridge, the Ohoror-Bomadi road, Ogulagha-Odimodi road, with various other internal road projects completed and ongoing from Patani, Burutu to Bomadi LGAs.

In Oshimili/Aniocha axis the people are happy with the completion of the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Isheagu-Ewulu road and several internal road projects also completed or ongoing in Asaba, Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku and a number of other towns and villages.

Deltans can see that Ughelli area is already wearing a new look, not only with the reconstruction of roads in Ughelli Township and other suburban centres, but especially with the speedy work on the Orere-Ewu bridge with spurs to connect over 26 communities.

Such critical road projects have been delivered and more are ongoing in Isoko, Ika, Sapele, Udu and Okpe lands. In fact, as at the last count, there are over 500 road and drainage projects going on across the state.

Other sectors, from education, transportation, agriculture and housing, are not left out. In health, about 260 Primary Health Care Centres and 64 General Hospitals are being renovated, upgraded and re-equipped.

Perhaps, the more immediate results are the administration’s social investments, with D-CARES beneficiaries raised from 36,000 to over 250,000 under two years, besides the deliveries of the MORE Grant, the MORE Biz-Up programmes to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises, and the intensified output of the Job Creation Office.

The same goes for the state work force, retired or in active service, who have had all their dues and more provided, and the youth and student communities who are enjoying the Delta “ukodo” like never before, with regular bursary and free medical services anywhere they are.

Truly, any opposition is bound to “pee in the pants” seeing these remarkable performances and knowing that they effectively destroy any formidable chance or hope for them to come to the contest in the next election.

Their condition is worsened by the acknowledgement of Oborevwori’s outstanding performance and rising profile in the national political sphere.

Why would Delta APC not pee in the pants when President Bola Tinubu has come publicly to acknowledge, describe and commend Oborevwori as a Governor for all, Pan Deltan, a detribalised leader and bridge-builder, adding that if we have more of his type, this country will be better?

Why would the Delta APC not pee in the pants when the Nigeria Governors Forum in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health conceded to Delta State the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for Primary Health Care Development in a peer review with other states?

Why will the Delta APC not pee in the pants when Oborevwori’s infrastructure building projects have been reported to the President as “unimaginable” by no less a person as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, a gentleman who says it as it is.

In comparison, in the last election the Delta APC paraded a candidate whose best public reputation is about the brigandage of mace snatching, an image that President Tinubu would never associate with to trade off his long and hard earned reputation as a democrat.

But perhaps, the most woeful betrayal of irresponsibility by the Delta APC is in their inability to understand why Governor Oborevwori has called for public support and hugely collaborating with the Tinubu administration to ensure the success of the ongoing socio-economic reforms.

Need it be emphasized that the country is one nation and the success of the Federal Government has a corresponding success effect on all the states?

For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP is basically driven by these establishing principles: the pursuit of the socio-economic development and growth of the nation, the prosperity of the people and the deepening of democracy for the sustenance of good governance, and they have remained the guiding values of the Delta State Governor.

But like we have noted, the Delta APC is living in a crippling fear of him, so we can understand why they have become sleepless and incontinent.

They are only hoping to survive through unintelligent propaganda as they are currently engaged in. Pitifully for them, “e no go work.”

Delta State Waste Management Board Strengthens Cleanup Efforts in Ibusa Dumpsite

In a bid to sustain a healthier and cleaner environment, the Delta State Waste Management Board has returned to the Ibusa dumpsite in Oshimili North Local Government Area for another round of cleanup and maintenance. This follows a previous exercise conducted on December 30 and 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

The renewed maintenance efforts, which commenced on January 10, 2025, aim to address the substantial waste accumulation from the festive season. Spearheaded by Chairman Mathew Mofe Edema, the Board continues to drive Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, particularly its emphasis on environmental cleanliness and public health.

During the initiative, Hon. Mathew Mofe Edema, alongside Board Members Hon. Felix Erhimedafe (Delta Central), Hon. Igbenije Ndudi Cosmas (Delta North), and Chief Mrs. Amb. Hon. Ethe Enifome Odunwa (Delta South), highlighted the critical need for consistent waste management practices. He urged residents to collaborate with the government by adopting proper waste disposal habits to ensure sustainable community living.

The Waste Management Board’s commitment to proactive waste management reinforces its dedication to creating a cleaner, safer, and more habitable environment across Delta State.

 

Delta APC in disarray, panic over Oborevwori’s rising profile

In his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State re-established the finest definition of governance. In his words, it is “about improving the quality of life of our people, about building bridges of social cohesion, about giving our people the hope of a better tomorrow, and about accelerated development. And it demands creative thinking, proactive action, and exemplary leadership.”

The remarkable phrases in the quote, for me, are “building bridges of social cohesion” and “exemplary leadership,” without which the other objectives cannot be attained.

On this, he has repeatedly reiterated that he is Governor for all Deltans, not just for his political party, the PDP, and he has demonstrated that in, not only his fair distribution and commitment to the completion of multi-sector projects across all the senatorial districts, federal constituencies, local governments and ethnic nationalities, but also in his social and political engagements across all segments of the citizenry.

When our late respected elder statesman, former Labour leader, and chieftain of the APC, Chief Frank Kokori, took ill, he was among the first to visit him at the hospital to offer support.

Educating the public on that occasion, he said: “I know people will think that because he is an APC chieftain I won’t be here. Deltans voted for me as Governor, it is not a party matter now, because we have finished the election and all of us are one. Whether he is APC or not, I am Governor for all Deltans, so I am here as governor for all, not for any party.”

Acknowledging and pleased by the gesture, Chief Kokori said: “I never knew Governor Oborevwori is a good man, because immediately he heard about my condition, he came to see me. I am so happy that he is not a mean fellow. He is a real Governor, a man who has such a heart is a good man. I am happy with him and have also prayed for him.”

Oborevwori also took time off to attend the thanksgiving service of Chief Stella Okotete, former National Woman Leader of the APC, where he also reiterated his broad-mindedness, which is in consonance with the virtues of good governance.

“I do not segregate. I want all of us to be united with the interest of developing Delta State. The most important thing is to do what you should be remembered for while in office.”

It was in the same spirit that he invited various leaders of the opposition party to the anniversary of his first year in office, a mindset for which Distinguished Senator Joel Onowakpo (APC), Delta South, extolled him.

“The Governor of Delta State is the Governor to everyone in Delta State and I do not think he is Governor to only those who are PDP. His Excellency extending invitation to all the Senators from Delta State, irrespective of their political leaning, is the smartest and wisest thing that he has done. I want to say that His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori should be commended for being broad-minded like our President. I want to encourage him to continue to be broad-minded and also be inclusive, (and) I want to encourage everyone to move away from primitive politics. This country needs cross-fertilization of ideas to have rapid development. We can be in different parties but with one common goal – the empowerment of our people and the development of our environment.”

Perhaps the most revealing testament came from President Bola Tinubu, who, at the wedding of Oborevwori’s son, acknowledged that since he came into office, he has been a Governor for all the people of the state.

Describing him as Pan Deltan, detribalised Governor and a bridge builder, he said if all leaders shun political and religious inclinations, like Oborevwori does, Nigeria would be a better place for all citizens to fulfill their God-given destinies.

These testaments and glowing tributes to Oborevwori have continued to haunt opposition elements in Delta State as they look, against all reality, reason and hope, towards 2027.

In their desperate fear of the wide commendations on Oborevwori, they went to town with propaganda that the Governor may be planning to defect to the APC, pointing to his recent call for citizens to pray for and support the ongoing national reforms by the Federal Government, explaining that if President Tinubu fails, then the states would also fail.

Their confusion and panic can only be because they do not understand the great leadership qualities being displayed by Oborevwori, and cannot draw the line between governance and politics.

It needs no explaining that the policies and reforms of the Federal Government affect all states of the federation, and responsible leadership demands collaboration in the overall interest of the nation. The opposite would only be tantamount to wishing oneself and nation evil, and in self-immolation.

They further tried to reinforce their lies by suggesting that Governor Oborevwori was recently in Ghana in wait to plead with President Tinubu to approve his defection, whereas in fact, he accompanied the President, alongside Governors Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Agbu Kefas of Taraba some ministers and other top government officials, as part of the Nigerian delegation to the inauguration of the new President of that country.

We know that they are not oblivious of such diplomatic practice which provides leverage for bilateral relations, they only wish that Oborevwori does not command such relevance in the national scheme.

That is why they have also been haunted by the recent acclamation of Oborevwori by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Abudulrzaq Abdulrahman, during their New Year visit to the President, at which he described the infrastructure building projects under Oborevwori as “unimaginable.”

It is truly unimaginable seeing an administration with 513 roads, drainage and stormwater channel projects going on simultaneously across urban and rural areas, the magnitude and pace of work on the Warri/Effurun flyover bridges project, the commitment on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the resolve on the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri 26km project with 19 bridges in which 15 have been completed, the determination with which the Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa East has been pursued as well as the Orere-Ewu Bridge and many more projects across all sectors.

It was for this reason, for instance, that the Nigeria Governors Forum and the Federal Ministry of Health awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for Primary Health Care Development to Delta State, an award that the state has never been mentioned in any category, talk less of winning, until the Oborevwori administration.

Sadly for the elements, despite their shameful denial of the obvious and plausible development index in the administration of Governor Oborevwori, which pitifully instills great fear in them ahead of 2027, and their attempt to confuse and decisive the public with baseless and illogical propaganda, there is nothing they can do to stop the good works of Sheriff nor the acknowledgment by both the President, his fellow Governors who do regular peer review and are aware of developments in their counterpart states, and most importantly, the Delta public for whom Oborevwori is working and they are seeing it.

In 2027, these misguidedly overzealous elements will weep again, and we would only say to them: “Weep not, little peeps, Sheriff is just too much.”

Group berates Oborovwori’s CPS for misrepresenting Senator Omo-Agege’s Christmas Message

The New Delta Coalition (NDC) has called out the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, for allegedly misrepresenting a well-intentioned Christmas message by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy President of the Senate, to score political points.

Reacting to widely circulated reports on various online platforms on Tuesday, reportedly authored under the alias Alaowei Okoronwanta, the coalition described the distortion of Senator Omo-Agege’s message as a troubling act of misinformation and unethical conduct.

In a statement signed by Mr. Godwin Anaughe, NDC noted that Festus Ahon, as the Governor’s official spokesperson, should act responsibly in his communications. The coalition accused Ahon of attributing sentiments to Senator Omo-Agege that reflect the Delta State Government’s thoughts on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, rather than the Senator’s views.

“We strongly condemn the blatant misrepresentation of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s Christmas message by Alaowei Okoronwanta, an alias used by Festus Ahon. This misinformation is particularly concerning given Ahon’s position as the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary,” the statement read.

The coalition emphasized that Senator Omo-Agege’s Christmas message was focused on unity, hope, and support for President Tinubu’s economic reforms. His message highlighted the challenges facing Nigeria while advocating for the importance of reforms to achieve long-term stability and prosperity.

“Ahon’s attempt to misrepresent Senator Omo-Agege’s Christmas message is an evil or demonic effort to ascribe to Omo-Agege what Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his administration actually think about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies.

“Senator Omo-Agege’s original message was a call to unity, hope, and support for the federal government’s economic reforms. His message acknowledged Nigeria’s challenges while highlighting the necessity of reforms for long-term growth and prosperity.

“The former Deputy President of the Senate’s message was balanced, thoughtful, and reflective of his commitment to President Tinubu’s administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the well-being of Nigerians.

“In contrast, the fabricated story attributed to Alaowei Okoronwanta is a gross misrepresentation of Senator Omo-Agege’s views by the Delta State government.

“Governor Oborevwori’s public declarations of support for President Tinubu’s administration are therefore questionable, considering his aide’s public criticism of the president’s policies. It’s classic voice of Jacob and hand of Esau.

The statement further criticized the Delta State Government for sponsoring misleading narratives that undermine federal initiatives. It called on the government to promote truthful and accurate information rather than spreading propaganda.

“This inconsistency raises serious concerns about the Delta State Government’s actual position on President Tinubu’s reform agenda. Such actions undermine public trust and cast doubt on the Governor’s sincerity and character,” the coalition remarked.

“Governor Oborevwori is only playing political games with the President, as his actions and those of his aides and commissioners do not align with his statements of support. Mere public declarations of support are insufficient; tangible actions and policies must substantiate such assertions. Unfortunately, the Governor’s track record suggests the opposite.”

The NDC urged the public to disregard the fabricated story and instead focus on Senator Omo-Agege’s original message, which it described as “balanced, thoughtful, and reflective of his commitment to Nigeria’s progress.” It also called on Festus Ahon and the Delta State Government to maintain ethical standards and uphold the truth in public communications.

The Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Limited, High Chief Kestin Pondi, has been celebrated for his exceptional contributions to youth empowerment, community development, and security in the Niger Delta region.

Tantita Security Service Special Volunteer Force (TSSSVF), also known as Tantita Security Ambassadors, commended High Chief Pondi for creating employment opportunities for over 25,000 youths from diverse ethnic groups across the Niger Delta. The group also highlighted his humanitarian efforts, including distributing welfare packages during the yuletide, underscoring the company’s commitment to grassroots engagement and corporate social responsibility.

The commendation was detailed in a communiqué issued after a recent meeting of TSSSVF, signed by its Coordinator, Comrade (Engr) Efe Feludu Kwakpovwe; Secretary, Barr. Andrew Efole; and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Stanley Umukoro. The volunteer force comprises over 1,000 members, including former student leaders, youth advocates, oil and gas experts, medical professionals, and human and environmental rights activists from oil-producing and pipeline-hosting communities across the Niger Delta states. The group collaborates with Tantita Security Services to conduct awareness campaigns against oil theft, pipeline vandalism, environmental degradation, and youth restiveness.

In their statement, the group congratulated High Chief Pondi on his recent Award of Excellence at the Kurutie Annual Amafinide Uge Festival, recognizing his humanitarian and community development initiatives. “His innovative approach to security management has not only ensured the safety of people and assets but also fostered economic growth and development in the region,” the statement read.

Highlighting the effectiveness of Tantita Security Services, the group referenced the November 2024 stakeholders’ meeting, where the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, reported that Nigeria’s crude oil production had risen to 1.808 million barrels per day and gas production to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day. These figures reflect the critical role of Tantita Security Services in achieving national economic milestones.

The group recalled that Nigeria’s crude oil production plummeted to 939,000 barrels per day in Q3 2022 due to vandalism and other criminal activities, preventing the country from meeting its OPEC production quota. This decline, alongside environmental degradation, stifled economic activities in the Niger Delta until Tantita Security Services intervened.

“We commend NNPCL for engaging Tantita Security Services, a company founded by Niger Delta activist High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) and managed by High Chief (Engr) Kestin Pondi, an engineering and security expert. The attention of the M.O.R.E. Reality Group (MRG) was recently drawn to comments made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris who, while reportedly addressing a now roundly dismissed and categorically debunked article by a media aide to the Delta State Governor, noted in his response, that Governor Oborevwori’s comments, as inferred from the opinions expressed in that situationally inappropriate write up, are a smokescreen to avoid accounting for the increased allocation Delta, an oil-producing state, has enjoyed under Tinubu.

It our considered opinion that the Minister erroneously profiled the Delta State Governor, relying on excerpts from a media aide, which the Delta State Government has renounced as a private opinion that does not reflect its official position.

With this salient backdrop therefore, we once again respectfully refer the Minister to the widely reported affirmation by Governor Oborevwori himself at a recent event, where he affirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies with the passionate declaration thus: “I want to appeal to the Urhobo nation today, I’m saying it here, I’m an Urhobo man, and I’m the Governor of Delta State.

“But I will tell whether you like it or not, I want to say it here, Mr. President that you see is supporting this administration. God has made him the President as God has made me the Governor. So as you are supporting me, support him, because if he fails, I will fail. But he will not fail, I will not fail.

“Mr. President has appointed our sons and daughters into positions. God has given him victory. You people should support us to succeed.”

Governor Oborevwori was to restate this commitment to the success of President Tinubu’s administration while declaring open, the fifth edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop, #DELCOM 2024 where he was represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, he said: “Let me also reiterate here, categorically and to clear any doubts, especially for our Government Spokespersons, Media Appointees, Social Media Influencers and Media Partners, that one of the major communication policy thrust of this administration is that we will continue to consistently promote and support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he continues to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda for the betterment of Nigerians and indeed Deltans.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the President of this country is fully supporting our administration and it behoves on us, as Government media aides, partners and spokespersons, to ensure that our strategic communication engagements must reflect, support and promote the President and reflect the policies, gains and advantages of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, for it is only by doing this with sincere commitment, that we can attract comprehensive benefits and goodwill from the Federal Government for our people”.

As a responsible and discerning body, we would have also regaled the Minister with a plethora of accomplishments, verifiable and robustly ongoing legacy, pragmatic and people compliant projects in infrastructure development, health, education, agriculture, security and transport sectors, at least to establish the fact Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is actually and pragmatically utilizing the state’s Federal allocation judiciously.

This is in addition to the comprehensive interventions in social welfare, human capital, humanitarian and jobs creation initiatives which have impacted positively on thousands of lives and homesteads across the three Senatorial zones in the state, driven and consistently delivered under guiding blueprint of the highly articulate M.O.R.E Agenda, to underscore how in deed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is prudently appropriating the Federal allocation to Delta State.

Having properly situated that misleading episode between the Hounourable Minister and our dear Governor in its proper context, let us at this juncture fully reassure the Minister of Information and National Orientation that the Delta State government under the watch of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has, as a matter of administrative compliance, embraced a deliberate policy, not to denigrate the person and policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government.

This policy is hinged on the fact that the Delta State government sees the policies of the Federal Government as mutually complementary to the state’s and not operationally exclusive, in spite of differences in political party affiliations and levels of governance.

This explanation becomes necessary in view of insinuations and perceptions in some quarters, that the Delta State government is seemingly not comfortable with some policies of the Federal Government.

As a matter of fact, the correct position of the Delta State government about its relationship with the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal government, can be extrapolated not only from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s categorical declaration as quoted earlier, which he expressed with such strong sentiments, but also from the several other activities which have established the primacy of the Federal Government’s initiatives and activities in the scheme of Delta State’s governance delivery.

For starters, the Delta State government has been very consistent in the regular distribution of palliatives from the Federal Government to the 25 Local Government Areas of the state which, according to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of subsidy palliatives committee, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the items will reach the targeted population, especially the vulnerable, the elderly, widows, indigent and other categories of persons mostly affected by the fuel subsidy removal.

Governor Oborevwori who flagged off the third phase of the palliatives distribution in June 2024, used the opportunity of the event to underscore the state government’s full compliance with the policies of the Federal Government, particularly the referenced removal of fuel subsidy.

He said: “When the issue of fuel subsidy removal came, we looked at it, it was real hard time for our Civil Servants; we discussed and the first thing we did was to pay all the outstanding promotion arrears amounting to over N5.6bn. We didn’t even know how the future was going to be then.

“That wasn’t enough; at the critical time of the fuel subsidy removal, we also sat down and even with a lot of workers of 50,193. We also agreed that for the 50,193 workers, we will be giving them small stipends of N10,000 for three months. We did it and it cost the state over N1.5bn.

“As for the issue of this palliative, we shared it last year; we are here today to say we are grateful to God for what He has been doing for us. Today, we are going to flag off distribution of the rice and maize that we have received.

“We received 24,000 units of 25kg bags of rice from Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria RIFAN; we received 4,700 units of 25kg bags of Garri and 18,770 units of 50kg bags of maize from the National Emergency Management Agency and the National Security Adviser’s Office. This palliative was received last month, which is May, 2024 and we are grateful to all the donor agencies for their support.

“You may also recall that between August and September 2023, we received 17,400 units of 50kg bags of rice and 40,000 units of 50kg bags of maize in a joint venture with the Federal Government. The items were distributed across the state in the first and second phases of this programme to take care of most especially, the most vulnerable in our state.

“I have told the SSG to ensure that this phase of distribution should get to even some notable farmers who do not belong to the different farmers’ associations. The committees at the Local Government Areas comprise the NLC, faith- based organisations, community Presidents-Generals, the traditional institutions and NGOs.

“We also took a decision that the Civil Servants from levels 1-14 should run shift. Monday to Wednesday, others Thursday and Friday. We have not even cancelled it and we feel it’s an opportunity for them to go into farming”.

It is also on record that Delta State was arguably the first state in the Federation to commence the implementation and payment of the new minimum wage to its workers, in fulfilment of the resolution between the Federal Government and the labour unions to increase the wage of workers across the country.

Nigerians would recall that the committee on consequential salary adjustments recently constituted by the Federal Government arising from the new Minimum Wage Act 2024 released the chart and template for payment of the new wage in late September 2024 and Delta State promptly commenced payment the follow month, as workers in the state workforce started receiving the new minimum wage in October 2024.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, who announced the good news of the new minimum wage after a meeting of the Committee of the new minimum wage with leadership of the Organized Labour in Delta State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), to discuss the implementation of the new minimum wage, said the meeting was at the instance of Governor Oborevwori, who he stated has directed immediate payment of the new minimum wage starting from the month of October.

Dr. Emu said: “The minimum wage committee earlier agreed that we can’t make payment until the National Income Salaries and Wages Commission sends the chart. We have now received the chart and we have in the last three sessions gone through the consequential adjustments and implications on our cash flow.

“Even though we have not been able to determine all the ramifications of the consequential adjustments on the future cash flow requirements of the State, the Governor directed we should go ahead to pay because he feels the pains of the people as a labour friendly Governor.”

It is also on record that Delta is amongst the states paying above the stipulated #70,000 to its workers, having presently pegged its minimum wage at #77,500.

Again, the very warm and very cordial collaboration between the Federal Government and the State government, was exemplified when the First Lady of the Federation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON visited Delta State and was received by the Delta State First Lady, Deaconness Tobore Oborevwori in Government House, Asaba.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori who hosted the First Lady in government house said: “I received Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at Government House in Asaba, for the official flag-off of the Renewed Hope Initiative economic empowerment program’s recapitalization grants for women petty traders.

“I commended the First Lady for making Delta State her first choice for the flag-off of the program and for her efforts in touching lives and uplifting the less privileged across the 36 states of the country and the FCT. This is truly remarkable and inspiring as the mother of the nation.”

The solid bond between our First Lady Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori and the First Lady of the federation Sen. Oluremi Tinubu also came to the fore recently in the case of little Miss Ishioma, who was diagnosed with a life threatening condition.

Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori described the situation thus: “Following an urgent SOS brought to my attention by the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, regarding a medical challenge faced by little Miss Ishioma, my dear husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, swiftly commissioned the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, to commence an anorectal malformation correction surgery on the 7-year-old girl.

“The surgery, which was successfully carried out on Saturday, November 30, 2024, by medical experts at the health facility, highlights my husband’s unwavering commitment to harnessing immediate resources and restoring confidence in the medical sector of Delta State.

“As partners in this historic journey, my project, the You Matter Charity Foundation, will continue to support the MORE Agenda of his administration through our various initiatives, which aim to create a world where everyone’s worth is valued, irrespective of status.

And just recently, this very December the Delta First Lady delivered another empowerment programme of the nation’s First Lady under the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).

Describing the event, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori said: “In light of the current economic challenges, our elderly citizens are particularly vulnerable to negative impacts. To cushion these challenges, earlier today at the Government House Banquet Hall in Asaba, I had the honour of hosting elderly citizens in Delta State on behalf of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

“This initiative, implemented under the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) with the theme “Total Wellness,” provided support to over 250 elderly citizens. Each beneficiary received a grant of ₦200,000, a 50kg bag of rice, and access to free medical checkups.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my dear husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their unwavering support and dedication to prioritizing the welfare of the elderly in our beloved state.”

And to fully highlight the synergy and symbiosis which exists between the two leaders, President Tinubu, at the wedding between Mr. Clinton Oborevwori and his heartthrob at the Living Faith Church, Asaba on Saturday, December 21, 2024, hailed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as a bridge-builder, a Pan Deltan, a detribalized leader and model political leader, stressing that since Oborevwori came into office he has been a Governor for all Deltans.

With all the above instances and many more which have been largely unreported, it is quite obvious to one and all that both Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are on the same page and wavelength, both Developmentally and administratively, with the M.O.R.E Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Let’s us now concluded with the very encouraging and uplifting words of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, who said: “2025 is a year that President Tinubu’s reforms will be consolidated for the benefit of all Nigerians”.

We have no doubts whatsoever that with the solid synergy between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Deltans will surely be amongst the first citizens to enjoy the benefits coming in 2025 and beyond.

Oborevwori Inaugurates Ultra-Modern Event Centre…as Ezenyili Launches ₦50 Million Empowerment Programme

Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Wife of the Governor of Delta State, has inaugurated the state-of-the-art Oko Event Centre in Oko Amakom. The occasion also marked the launch of a ₦50 million empowerment initiative for 500 beneficiaries within Oshimili South Local Government Area. Each recipient received ₦100,000, while 20 bags of rice were distributed to each political ward in the council.

The event centre, a flagship project of Hon. Dr. High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, was lauded by the First Lady as a transformative project that promises significant socio-economic benefits for the community.

Deaconess Oborevwori praised the grassroots-focused leadership of Dr. Obi Ezenyili, describing the project as a testament to his commitment to improving lives. She urged the people of Oshimili South to continue supporting the council’s efforts, emphasizing that the Oko Event Centre would stimulate economic activities and foster community growth.

In his remarks, Dr. Obi Ezenyili explained that the event centre aligns with the MORE agenda of the state administration and addresses the community’s long-standing need for a standard facility for social gatherings. He highlighted the project’s impact in reducing the need for residents to travel to Asaba for such events.

The council chairman also flagged off the empowerment programme designed to promote inclusiveness and reduce youth restiveness. Beneficiaries included Persons with Disabilities, artisans, religious groups, youth leaders, traditional institutions, and members of various ethnic communities in Oshimili South.

Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, the member representing Oshimili South in the State Assembly, and Chief Victor Obi, the Odua of Oko Amakom, commended the Governor and his administration for the project and called for further developmental initiatives, including the establishment of a secondary school in Oko Amakom.

The inauguration of the Oko Event Centre underscores the council’s focus on developmental governance and its resolve to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
